The first game I ever covered was on January 27th, 2021, at Liberty High School. Chris Nwuli was just a freshman at the time playing for Bishop Gorman High School. The young freshman and his co-star John Mobley Jr. we’re in the midst of an incredible 30-2 season run with the Gaels. Chris ended the game with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and instantly we were hooked. The potential and ceiling for this young athlete was endless, and thankfully, for us, this was just the beginning of our coverage of his journey.

Chris Nwuli started his basketball career with the Bishop Gorman Gaels. Under the guidance of Coach Grant Rice, in his two seasons he helped lead the team to a 30-2 and 22-7 season. This is where the legend begin.

There have been three pivitol programs and events that helped further the legend of Chris in his early high school years, Bishop Gorman, the Vegas Elite EYBL basketball club, and the Section 7 tournament. On each stage, Chris has been a stand-out star on and off the court. At Bishop Gorman, he helped build the legacy of their program taking them to the State Championship game, with Vegas Elite he rose to stardom and led his 16U and 17U teams to Peach Jam taking them all the way to the Peach Jam Championship, and the Section 7 tournament, taking a young Bishop Gorman squad to win the Section 7 championship.

Transition to Wasatch Academy

With the landscape of Las Vegas Preps basketball changing in the summer of 2023, Nwuli transferred to Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah with fellow Bishop Gorman Senior and Ohio State commit John Mobley Jr. and Nevada’s 5A State Champion Taj Degourville from Durango High School.

Chris helped to lead Wasatch through a tough national schedule through his junior year, showing an immense amount of growth and promise for his final senior year run.

Junior USA Team Experience

During the summer of 2023, Chris took some time away from the Nike EYBL Circuit to join an incredible opportunity to participate in the USA Basketball Junior National Team Minicamp. There was a lot of buzz from the scouts at the camp impressed with his supreme athletic ability, running and jumping ability, and his transition game.

Family Background

During the summer of 2023, we had the great fortune of traveling with the Vegas Elite EYBL organization and following Chris’s journey. It was here we were introduced to the great Tony Nwuli Sr. and Mrs. Nwuli, along with Chris’s sister who attended all of his EYBL stops. The family ties originating in the deep roots of their Nigerian background showed us a great part of what made Chris the athlete and player we see today. The leadership, strength, and support shown by his parents throughout the summer Peach Jam run was incredible. Mr. Nwuli served as a counselor for all of the athletes on the team, helping to build them up after one of the few tough losses but also carried the respect of the group to be able to hold each and every team member accountable when needed. Mrs. Nwuli served as the momma bear of the team helping to inspire and care for each of the individual boys as if they were her own.

We would be remiss to mention Chris’s older brother and Wasatch Senior Anthony Nwuli. This journey that we outlined from Bishop Gorman to Vegas Elite to Wasatch has been a road traveled by both brothers. They have been able to share in this incredible journey together. Tony Nwuli senior might have been the knowledgeable Jedi counselor, but Anthony was the steadfast warrior standing side by side with Chris in every battle.

Why is it important to highlight Chris’s family? When it comes to sports, at some point you play at a level where everyone has talent and is gifted. When a program is looking to recruit the next young star, when we look at what makes the all-stars of today’s game, these intangible items separate them from the rest. These are the ideas and philosophies at the core of the athlete and young adult that is Chris Nwuli that help push and drive him forward.

College Recruitment

Chris Nwuli’s exceptional performance on the court has attracted interest from several colleges. His first official visit was to Ohio State, where he appreciated the family feel of the Buckeyes men’s basketball program. He enjoyed the experience alongside his high school and grassroots teammate, four-star guard and Ohio State pledge Juni Mobley.

In addition to the Buckeyes, Nwuli has also received offers from UCLA, Arizona State, Louisville, San Diego State, and Washington. In an interview with 247 sports, Nwuli stated that he plans to spend his time recruiting. He is open to more schools reaching out to him but is still considering the schools that have been with him from the start.

Rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, Nwuli is ranked No. 35 overall in the national 2025 class. His recruitment journey reflects his open-minded approach and his commitment to finding the right fit for his college career.

Scouting Reports and Readiness for the Next Level

Scouting reports highlight Nwuli’s athleticism, high motor, and defensive prowess. Standing at 6’7″ and weighing 200 pounds, Nwuli is a power forward with a strong presence on the court. His size, fluid athleticism, and high motor make him a great fit on any dynamic offense.

Nwuli’s time in Las Vegas, a city with a vibrant basketball scene, has also shaped him as a player. As a product of Las Vegas basketball, he embodies the city’s competitive spirit and passion for sports. His family background and the road to senior year have readied and steadied him for what will come. As he heads off with the Oakland Soldiers 17U EYBL team to take on this summer’s Nike Circuit, we will be sure to update you along the way as we help document this young man’s incredible journey.
