Sheryl Krmpotich Bio
Sheryl Krmpotich, affectionately known as “Coach K,” is a celebrated figure in Nevada’s high school basketball world. Her journey in sports began as a collegiate basketball player at Boise State and Scottsdale Community College. She then earned a scholarship in track and field at UNLV.
Krmpotich began teaching and coaching at Bishop Gorman High School in 1999. Over her 18-year tenure as head coach through the 2016 season, she led the Gaels to four state championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010) and five state runner-up finishes, amassing an impressive 477-89 record. She also sent 39 players to college basketball, including 28 to the Division I level, and coached two McDonald’s All-Americans.
In 2016, Krmpotich decided to step down from her position as the head coach. However, she remained active in coaching by working at various local clinics. She also continued in her teaching position at Gorman.
Seven years after her departure, Krmpotich triumphantly returned to Bishop Gorman’s girl’s basketball program in 2023⁴. She led the Gaels to a remarkable victory in her first season back, winning the Class 5A state championship in 2024. The Gaels beat Centennial 57-53 in the state title game, ending Centennial’s eight-year run of state championships.
Sheryl Krmpotich’s resilience, dedication, and passion for the sport have left an indelible mark on Bishop Gorman’s basketball program. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of athletes.
