NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – Setting a remarkable milestone last night was Mojave High School’s standout guard C.J. Shaw surpassing the 2,000-point mark in a commanding 77-56 victory over Desert Pines. Needing just 24 points ahead of the game, Shaw finished the night with 28, cementing his place among Nevada’s high school basketball elite and in Mojave history books

Shaw’s milestone highlights his consistent ability to perform under pressure, adding to an already impressive résumé that includes consecutive Class 4A state championships for the Mojave Rattlers. In previous title games, he notched 26 points to secure the program’s first championship and 37 points in the subsequent final, leading Mojave to back-to-back crowns.

“This achievement is huge not just for C.J., but for our entire community,” said Mojave head coach Coach Clark. “Reaching 2,000 career points takes dedication and skill, and it shows why he’s been instrumental to our success.”

A Scoring Machine

Known for his high-scoring performances—such as 27 points against Valley High School and 25 points over Centennial—Shaw has repeatedly proven his offensive talents. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has a knack for finding open space on the court and elevating his teammates’ energy through his dynamic play.

“He’s been a leader since day one,” added Coach Clark. “When you have someone who can consistently put up big numbers and still keep the team involved, it changes the game.”

Commitment to UC Santa Barbara

Shaw’s success has not gone unnoticed on the national stage. Rated as a three-star recruit and placed among ESPN’s Top 100 players for the class of 2025, he committed to the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in October 2024. He had garnered offers from notable programs such as UNLV, West Virginia, Xavier, Saint Mary’s, and Utah State, but ultimately chose to join the Gauchos.

“C.J. brings a championship mentality,” said UCSB Coaching Staff Member, referencing his back-to-back state titles. “We’re thrilled to welcome him. His scoring ability and experience will be a huge asset for our program.”

Continuing the Rattlers’ Legacy

Beyond the eye-popping point totals and Division I commitment, Shaw’s impact on Mojave basketball is profound. His leadership, both on and off the court, has transformed the Rattlers into a formidable force in Nevada high school hoops. He has set an example for younger athletes, proving that dedication, teamwork, and perseverance can lead to historic achievements.

“Every time I step on the court, I give my all for Mojave,” said Shaw. “Hitting 2,000 points is a dream come true, but it’s also a testament to my coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me.”

Looking Ahead

While surpassing 2,000 points is a rare and prestigious milestone, Shaw remains focused on the remainder of the season and his upcoming transition to college basketball. His journey from promising underclassman to record-setting senior reflects his personal growth and the supportive environment at Mojave High School.

As the Rattlers continue their quest for another deep playoff run, Shaw’s milestone inspires his teammates and the greater Las Vegas basketball community. Whether he’s dominating on the state finals stage or preparing to take the floor at UCSB, C.J. Shaw exemplifies hard work, dedication, and the bright future of Nevada high school basketball.
