Aaliah Spaight's Bio

Aaliah Spaight is a standout sophomore at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has made a significant impact on the school's women's basketball team, playing as a point guard. Aaliah's contributions were instrumental in leading the Gaels to a Class 5A state championship. The team triumphed over perennial power Centennial with a score of 57-53 in the title game. Aaliah shone in the state championship, helping Bishop Gorman overcome a nine-point deficit in the first half by scoring 23 points – including 15 in the fourth quarter. In recognition of her outstanding performance, Aaliah was named the 2023-24 Nevada MaxPreps High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. This accolade is a testament to her skill, dedication, and impact on the court. Aaliah Spaight's journey in basketball is just beginning, and she continues to show promise for an exciting career ahead. Her achievements as a sophomore signal a bright future in the sport. In its 39th year of honoring the nation's most elite high school athletes, Gatorade announced on March 14, 2024, that Aaliah Spaight of Bishop Gorman High School is the 2023-24 Gatorade Nevada Girls Basketball Player of the Year. This makes Spaight the fourth Gatorade Nevada Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Bishop Gorman High School. The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard averaged 17.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 4.4 steals per game this past season, leading the Gaels (24-4) to the Class 5A state championship. Also the 2024 Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year, Spaight averaged 23 points, 8.3 rebounds, six assists, and six steals per game in her team's three-game postseason run to the title. She shot 66 percent from inside the arc in 2024. Spaight has volunteered locally as a youth basketball coach and has also donated her time by participating in holiday initiatives to feed the less fortunate. Rico Dunn, the head coach of Silverado High School, praised Spaight, saying, "Aaliah Spaight is a dominant guard who demonstrates next-level composure on the court. Throughout the state championship game, she was calm, cool, and collected despite multiple double- and triple-teams by a much lengthier Centennial squad. She accounted for 40 percent of the Lady Gaels scoring that night."
